Spotify Lossless Audio: New Leaks Suggest “Super Premium” Tier Imminent After Years of Waiting

Could Spotify’s Premium Tier Finally Offer Lossless Audio?

Recent leaks suggest that Spotify’s long-awaited lossless audio tier may be closer than ever. For years, users have anticipated this feature, originally promised as “Spotify Hi-Fi” years ago. New evidence, however, offers fresh optimism.

A software engineer recently shared code snippets from the Spotify app that explicitly mention “Lossless music, now in premium,” and detail a high-fidelity audio specification of “up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz.”

Further fueling speculation, leaked images from the Spotify desktop application showcase lossless audio support. These images, shared online, show a new animation for headphone optimization for lossless audio.

A separate leak from a Reddit user claims to have activated lossless audio within the Spotify PC app via a custom script. Although functional only for brief periods, the user provided screenshots supporting the existence of 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC files, mirroring earlier leaks. The images also corroborate the headphone optimization tool seen in the earlier leaks. These images suggest that lossless audio playback will be restricted to compatible headphones.

While these leaks are unconfirmed and should be treated cautiously, they align with prior reports of a planned “Music Pro tier” from Spotify. This upcoming subscription level is rumored to include enhanced audio quality, alongside other features like AI remixing and priority concert ticket access. The timing of these leaks suggests Spotify could be internally testing the lossless audio functionality as part of this new offering.

Although the wait for lossless audio on Spotify has been extensive, this recent surge of evidence provides substantial reason for hope. However, for users unwilling to wait longer, alternative streaming services already offer lossless audio support.
