The hideout resembles a medium-sized studio apartment, containing the essentials: a bed, kitchen, and living area. This is the extent of the interior. The exterior features a garage to the left of the entryway. As someone who appreciates simplicity and tinkering, Sam’s arrangement is perfect. Like its predecessor, Death Stranding 2 emphasizes connection; while maintaining world ties is important, personal seclusion is equally crucial.

A Vast and Stunning Landscape

Death Stranding 2’s opening scene is breathtaking. Upon gaining control of Sam, I paused to admire the beauty of the post-Death Stranding Mexican terrain. The rocky, mountainous desert seemed endless, making Sam’s hideout location even more appealing.

Trekking across the landscape with the game’s soundtrack playing was a perfect experience. Being an avid hiker and runner, traversing the landscape as Sam felt like a simulation of an ideal hiking adventure. The first Death Stranding game developed a reputation for its unexpected coziness, and Death Stranding 2’s opening instantly reaffirmed this.

Throughout the game, returning Sam to his private space provides a stabilizing element to the day’s journey. It allows both Sam and the player to de-stress. Death Stranding 2 is content-rich, so these breaks are welcome. This also highlights the importance of escaping the constant demands of modern life.
